The next day, on Valentine’s Day, she receives a package that she hopes conveys the words she so desperately longs to hear.
I need you. I love you. I can’t stand to be without you.
Unfortunately, there is only one word that strikes her right through her heart.
𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙠.
When she thinks her day can’t get any worse, she finds out she is wrong.
Swearing off relationships, she tumbles into the arms of Chev, a guy who has always seen her.

She closes her eyes, but I want her to open them and give me her full attention. I don’t want her to hide from me ever again. She is all I see. I want her to know that. I need her to know that. My fingers trail up her chin and caress her bottom lip, pulling it outward slightly. When she opens her eyes, we are locked in a tantalizing stare that makes me want to take her against the wall of this storage room, and my knees almost buckle at the thought.
I lean into her, placing my forehead against hers. Mari’s breaths quicken. I need to be closer to her. Does she even realize what she does to me? How long have I been staring at her from a distance? My lips skim against hers, and I try to hold back the desire I have pumping through my entire body. It’s when she says my name in a whispered moan that my control snaps, and I slam my lips against hers.
I expect her to pull away, but instead, she grabs the back of my neck, threading her fingers in my hair to draw me closer to her. We are starved for each other and I can’t get enough.

L. Renee Richard is a native Texan gone north. She lives in New England with her husband and two teenagers. The other piece of her heart, her oldest son, lives in the south, where she visits him at every opportunity.
She enjoys the beach life, whether warm gulf coastal waters or the more frigid Atlantic Ocean. She loves her small-town atmosphere, where she can walk down the dirt road to the lake and enjoy their quintessential small town’s gorgeous scenic views and earthy smells.
L. Renee is an avid reader with a never-ending TBR. She wholeheartedly prefers the quietness of nature, where she is frequently curled up in a fluffy blanket, either reading a book or writing an angsty romance novel where the journey to a HEA isn’t always easy but worth the trip.
