Too much. Too much, he said. My hopes and heart fell into the pit of my stomach as my eyes dropped to my clasped hands. I felt a fat tear hit the back of my hand as the disappointment washed over me.
Without taking the chance of looking at Cody and seeing his displeasure I turned and literally ran downstairs. I dashed out to the barn, finding Chris there putting the horses away for the day.
“Cuz, what’s wrong?” He asked worriedly.
“Give me Pony boy!” I ordered, swinging onto the horse and flying out of the barn.
I pushed Pony hard, harder than I should have as I rode for the pond. I didn’t know what to do, what to think, other than the fact that I apparently had screwed up the best thing I’d ever had happen in my life. With a heavy heart and tears streaming down my cheeks I slid out of the saddle and crumbled against the trunk of a tree. I buried my head in my arms and cried.
